Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Stain will keep your deck protected against the weather and everyday wear & tear to ensure it looks great all year round.
Based on weathering data, Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Stain lasts twice as long as a standard decking stain. Ronseal Ultimate Decking Stain is slip resistant and will be rainproof in 90 minutes.
For the perfect finish, apply two coats of Ultimate Protection Decking Stain with a brush or pad. Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Stain can cover up to 8m² per litre.

Before you start
Ensure your decking is clean and free of dirt, oil, grease, wax and silicone. Use a stiff brush to remove any algae, moss or mildew before leaving your deck to dry thoroughly.
Untreated, weathered decking
- Use a decking restorer to highlight the wood's natural colour and ensure the stain penetrates effectively.
- Leave your deck to dry thoroughly before applying Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Stain.
Previously treated decking
Use Decking Stripper to remove any paint or oil and turn your decking back into bare wood.
New Wood
- New decking typically has some degree of waterproofing, which may hinder the absorption of our stain. To prevent this, you can thoroughly clean your deck with our Decking Cleaner & Reviver or allow it to weather naturally for six months.
- We recommend rinsing the surface thoroughly with water, preferably using a pressure washer.
- Check if any pre-treatment is remaining, sprinkle some water on the deck and see if it beads.
- If beading occurs, clean thoroughly and then wait for the wood to dry.
We would suggest using Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Stain in temperatures above 10°C. Ensure there is a clear weather forecast and check your deck is dry before you start.
- Thoroughly stir the stain and dip your brush or pad into it. Ensure that you are satisfied with the colour by testing it on a small area of wood.
- Start on the farthest corner of the deck, brushing along the length of the boards. To avoid creating overlap marks, work on three to four boards at a time.
- Apply two coats of Ultimate Protection Decking Stain to achieve the best finish. Allow a minimum of 4 hours between each coat. After 24 hours, you can move your furniture back onto the deck.
- If you get any stain on yourself, clean it off by washing with warm soapy water.
Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your stain over a longer period, use a stiff broom to sweep the decking. Use the broom to clear away debris, leaves, and dirt that can build up in the grooves of the decking.
Repair
If you come across an area that doesn't meet the expected standard, you can fix it by lightly sanding the area and applying a thin coat of Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Stain to the affected spot.
