Osmo Oil Buying Guide

Osmo is a leading manufacturer of natural wood oil and wood protection products designed for interior and exterior use. With a large range of wood finishes for all applications, we’ve put together a brief guide on selecting the right Osmo oil for your woodcare protection.

Osmo Polyx-Oil, for floors and furniture

The original hardwax-oil, osmo polyx-oil is extremely durable, hardwearing and resistant to common spillages, making it the ideal wood oil for interior wooden floors and furniture. Polyx-oil is available in gloss, satin and matt finishes.

Polyx-Oil Effect Raw 3044 provides a lightly white pigmented matt finish, providing near invisible protection for lightly coloured wooden floors and furniture, keeping your light-coloured wood light for longer.

Polyx-Oil Tints provides 7 perfect colour options that still allow the woods natural grain to be visible. Benefitting from the same great protection properties of Polyx-Oil, tints provide a stunning and durable colour finish to interior floors and furniture.

Short on time? Polyx-Oil Rapid is quick drying and can be re-coated in 4-5 hours, meaning the project can be completed same day, it is available from us in Clear Matt 3262 or Clear Satin 3232.

Osmo UV Protection Oil, for exterior applications

Ideal for vertical exterior wood surfaces such as doors, windows, shutters, cladding, balconies, fences, pergolas and summer houses, UV Protection Oil is water and dirt resistant and delays the natural greying of untreated wood by up to 12 times. UV Protection Oil is a satin finish, with two clear options (410 & 420) and 8 transparent colour tints.

UV Protection 410 is safe for humans, plants and animals when dry

UV Protection 420 Extra is mould, algae and fungi resistant

Osmo Decking Oil, for exterior decking

As the name suggests, Decking Oil is the perfect companion for your decking, but can also be used on other exterior soft and hardwood furniture. Osmo Decking Oil is water and dirt resistant, but also breathable therefore reducing water logging, swelling and shrinkage. It is also safe for animals, plants and humans once dry.

Available in 11 transparent colours which ensure the natural wood character remains visible, the shades all provide excellent UV-resistance except for the very popular 007 Teak Oil which is a clear finish and allows wood to naturally grey.

Osmo Top Oil, for kitchen worktops and food-safe surfaces

Top Oil is food safe (EN 1186) and safe for use on children’s toys (EN 71.3). Top Oil is extremely water repellent, avoiding water marks and also resistant to common liquid spillages, making it ideal for general interior joinery, kitchen worktops and food-safe surfaces.

Available in clear matt 3058 and clear satin and 3068 natural, plus 4 natural transparent tint colours which promote the woods natural characteristics and grain.

Osmo Door Oil, for Interior Doors

Suitable for solid interior doors, furniture and some veneered surfaces, Osmo Door Oil comes in two finishes 3060 Clear Satin which enhances woods natural character, and 3033 Raw Matt which preserves wood’s natural light colour with its lightly white pigmented finish.

Do I need to sand surfaces before applying Osmo Oils?

Yes, for initial applications preparation will often require sanding and thorough cleaning to ensure best application and results. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact our team for support or check the preparation section of the relevant Osmo product page on our site.

How to apply Osmo Oils?

Generally, application of Osmo Oils is straightforward and will achieve excellent results if completed correctly. However, there are specific requirements and best practices for certain Osmo products, for example removing excess white pigment from Oil Effect Raw 3044, combining Polyx Tints or UV Protection Tints with the appropriate topcoat, or the best tools to use for a flawless finish. To avoid confusion, we provide guidance on each of our product pages for preparation, application and aftercare, and our team are on hand to answer any questions regarding your Osmo project 6 days a week.
