And Just Like That… You can recreate your favourite Sex and The City character’s interior style

Dun dun dun dun, dun, dun, dun, du dun dun… Nothing gets us as nostalgic as the opening theme tune of ‘Sex and the City’.

Whether you love it or hate, you cannot deny that the series is one of the most iconic of its day. And one of the things that made the show so famous? It’s one of a kind, flamboyant style.

So naturally, when the HBO Max reboot ‘And Just Like That…’ was announced, we knew we’d be watching. Whatever you thought of the storyline, the show’s designers and Set Decorator Carol Silverman did not disappoint.

Haven’t seen it yet? Don’t worry, you’ll find no spoilers here. This post is purely about the show’s interiors.

The Sex and The City series gave us a window into some dreamy New York real estate. With" And Just Like That" set a decade later, all of us SATC fans at DCO we’re wondering one thing: what would each character’s homes be decorated like?

It’s a well known fact that your style changes as you get older. You get more experienced with DIY and get braver with the things you’ll try. When we left Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, they were in their 30s. Now they’re 50+. How would their tastes have evolved?

One thing we love about getting interior inspiration from films and TV shows, is that they’re a masterclass in:

A) Decorating for the space you’re in, and

B) Reflecting your personality in your interiors.

Charlotte

Take Charlotte for example. Maybe you can recall Season 4 of SATC when she tells her first husband Trey she wants to redecorate the apartment. Now that was one heck of a transformation! Her Upper East Side home went from having an overpowering number of patterns (and who can forget the decorative mallards!) to being completely transformed into an all white, monochrome dream. But then again, what would you expect from a perfectionist like Charlotte?

Looking to channel your inner Charlotte and recreate a sophisticated, Upper East Side penthouse vibe?

We’d keep the colour scheme mostly whites, and off whites, with accents of soft muted colours. We’re loving the shades Inverted Clouds (12), Frosty Morning(5), Retreat (6) or Soft Shadows (7)for a timeless neutral palette.

To add some texture to the walls we’d go for the paper Lulea (1). The patterned Aralia (2) for places we wanted to add extra colour,: and of course, we’d deck the dining room, entrance way, and possibly the living room in our gorgeous modern Wood Panel Paper (3).

Opaline floor pops (8) would give the luxury impression or marble, without the cost or carry-on. We’d finish the look off with statement soft furnishings like our lovely Beeze Cushion (9), Byzantine Linen Cushion (10) and gorgeous Fleur Cushion (11) plus our Gabbana 6 light pendant (4).

Carrie

One thing that we were happy to see had stayed, was Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic walk in wardrobe. Her original apartment has come on leaps and bounds since the original 1998 pilot episode. We’re finally seeing the same level of confidence she has in her outfits in her choice of wallpaper - and we are here for it.

To recreate Carrie’s interior vibe, we’d center our designs on bold wallcoverings. Our top picks would be Lindora, our Elba Panelled wallpaper, or Reine wallpaper. (We think a beautiful statement wall to stare at when you get stuck should be an essential in any writer’s home).

Carrie would definitely choose her paint colours from our Colour of the Year Bold Boho collection. We could see her loving the palette of Alpaca Greige (5), Gypsy Beads (6) Teal Tango (7), and Hemp Seeds (12).

Our Raven floor pops would give the room a lovely studio/office vibe. Carrie is famous for her super sassy, special ability to accessorise any outfit. So of course she’d finish off the look with a mismatched collection of designer looking cushions; say our Capetown Cushion (9), Lush Emerald Cushion (10) or fabulous Snug Cushion (11). A writer needs a strong light to set the mood and help the creative juices flow, so we’d complete the room with a statement piece like our Eaen Semi Plush Pendant (4). Well dear reader, what do you think?

Mirranda

Next stop is Brooklyn, where Mirranda moved after falling pregnant with Brady in the original series (bet she’s laughing now given how house prices there have gone up…). If you’ve been to New York, you’ll know Brooklyn is as cool, if not now cooler than Manhattan. Miranda’s house definitely falls into the hipster category, and embraces the New York loft living industrial style.

We’d bring textures onto the walls with wallpapers like Havana Industrial Texture (1), Durham Brick (2) and Gravity Texture (3) for a bit more of a luxury rustic look. Our Ashwood floor pop (8) would look great in this sort of space. On the walls? We’ve gone for Hazelnut latte (5), Canyon (6) and Flatt white (12), while accent walls of the super moody mysterious Sweet Liquorice (7) would set the vibe. To finish the look, we’d place our Merton Pendant light over a long wooden table, and throw our Edinburgh (9), Meghan (10), and Earth (11) Cushions onto a distressed leather sofa. Oft, we can just imagine it.

We hope this inspo helped you think about your latest project. Now if you excuse us, we’re off to rewatch the entire series again and start renovating.
