How to use Toupret fillers?

A lot of the Toupret fillers we sell are available in ready mixed tubs. This means no preparation or mixing is required and you can just use them straight out of the packaging.

  1. To apply the Toupret fillers we'd almost always recommend using a filling knife or blade. However, this does depend on the size of the area you are working on as on a small area may be easier to fill with your finger. It is best to apply the filler gradually and make sure there are no air pockets!
  2. Once smoothed out and the filler is dry, you can paint over the filler. It may require sanding so we would always suggest having sandpaper handy when applying filler. Always check the packaging or product page of your chosen Toupret filler for the paint over time to ensure you don't paint too early.

Is Toupret a flexible filler?

Yes, Toupret offers a wide range of flexible fillers that are specifically designed to be flexible, while others are formulated for hard, durable repairs. Some of our popular Toupret flexible fillers include:

How long does Toupret filler take to dry before painting?

Toupret filler drying times vary depending on the specific product used, the depth of the repair, and the room conditions.

Temperature, humidity, and the thickness of the filler application will all affect drying time, so it's always best to check the instructions for the specific Toupret product you're using.

How thick should you apply Toupret filler?

Toupret fillers can be applied at different thicknesses depending on the specific product and the type of repair you're carrying out.

The maximum application depth can vary significantly between products, so it's important to check the manufacturer's instructions for the filler you're using.

Can you paint over Toupret filler?

Yes, Toupret filler is designed to be painted over once it has fully dried and, where necessary, been sanded smooth. Most Toupret fillers provide an excellent surface for decorating and can be overpainted with a wide range of water-based and solvent-based paints.

Does Toupret filler need a mist coat?

In most cases, Toupret filler does not require a mist coat. Many Toupret products are formulated to minimise flashing and can be painted directly once dry and properly prepared.

Can you paint over Toupret filler without a primer?

Yes, in many cases you can paint directly over Toupret filler without using a primer. One of the advantages of many Toupret fillers is that they are designed to accept paint directly once dry and sanded. If you're unsure, test a small area first or refer to the manufacturer's guidance for the filler and paint system you're using.

How long does Toupret filler last?

Toupret fillers are designed to provide a long-lasting, durable repair when applied correctly. In most cases, a properly prepared and filled surface should last for many years without shrinking, cracking, or failing, especially in stable interior conditions.

The key to long-lasting results include proper surface prep, correct application, and ensuring the underlying cause of any cracks or damage has been addressed before filling.
