Ensure all surfaces to be varnished are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, grease, polish or any other surface contaminant. Remove any flaking or cracked varnish. Previously varnished surfaces in sound condition should be rubbed down with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinsed thoroughly to provide a key.

Ensure maximum ventilation during application and drying. Stir Johnstones Trade Woodworks Heavy Duty Yacht Varnish thoroughly before use. Apply two or more coats of johnstones Trade Woodworks Heavy Duty Yacht Varnish, evenly by good quality brush, along the wood grain, paying particular attention to the end grain. Do not overlap the brush strokes. On bare or new wood the first coat can be thinned with one part White Spirit to five parts Johnstones Trade Woodworks Heavy Duty Yacht Varnish and applied by brush followed by two coats of undiluted Johnstones Trade Woodworks Heavy Duty Yacht Varnish. Sand down lightly between coats.
