Preparation

Before painting your shed, it's most important to ensure that your surfaces have been properly prepared, make any repairs or replace any decayed sections of wood. If there are large cracks or splits in the wood, use an exterior wood filler to repair them.

Once your surfaces have been properly repaired, protect the ground around your shed by using plastic or painting sheets and trimming back any excess foliage. Using a wire brush remove any loose paint or flaking dirt to ensure your surfaces are smooth and ready for painting.

Masking

If your shed has any windows or hinges that you don't want splashed with paint ensure that you use masking tape to provide the neatest finish possible. 

Painting

Starting at the top of your shed and using a wide brush or roller, start applying your paint, as per the manufacturer's guide. Ensure when applying your paint that you're careful not to let it drip too much and make sure that you use long, steady strokes that follow along with the grain perfectly.
