How Long Does Sandtex Trade Masonry Paint Last?

As with any paint or coating the environment and conditions will have an impact on this. However, Sandtex have tested their paints in the harshest of conditions to be able to prove the lifespan of their products.

The popular High Cover Smooth Masonry paint has 15 years of guaranteed durability making it one of the highest quality masonry coatings in the market. The X-Tra range gives 10 years of protection on surfaces and the Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint gives a staggering 20 years of protection in almost all conditions. Designed with a special Pliolite resin it can be applied in temperatures as low as -10°C.

How Long Does Sandtex Paint Take to Dry?

For a masonry paint, Sandtex Trade Smooth Masonry is great for jobs that require a quick turnaround. The water-based formula is quick drying and under normal conditions will be touch dry in 1-2 hours. If a second coat is required it can be applied after 3-5 hours meaning your masonry project can be completed in a day.

Does Santex Masonry paint need a primer?

Sandtex masonry paint is designed to be a self-priming, all-in-one exterior coating, so in many cases it does not require a separate primer when applied to sound, previously painted masonry surfaces.

However, a primer or stabilising solution may still be needed in certain situations, such as:

  • On new or bare masonry (e.g. fresh render or plaster)
  • On highly porous or chalky surfaces
  • On areas where the existing surface is flaking, dusty, or unstable
  • When treating problem areas affected by damp or contamination

Always check the specific Sandtex product instructions, as preparation requirements can vary slightly between different masonry paint formulations.
