Little Greene colours and finishes can be applied through a variety of different methods to help achieve the best possible results. The most popular methods of application include:

Brush - For the highest quality results, use a high quality synthetic bristle brush that is suitably sized for your painting project. Apply evenly, ensuring you don't overload your brush with paint.

Roller - To ensure a smooth, even application, use a short nap wool blend roller sleeve on smooth surfaces, increasing nap length for textured surfaces as to ensure even and thorough coverage. For high quality results, ensure your strokes are all applied in the same direction, to maintain a wet edge throughout.

Sprayer - Suitable for the majority of finishes, to ensure you are using the correct spray sizes ensure you read the application guide provided on your tin.

The number of coats will depend on the surface you’re painting. Thanks to the excellent coverage provided by little greene paint, two coats are usually sufficient in most applications.

When it comes to higher traffic areas within your home, we recommend using the Little Greene Intelligent Matt which is completely washable and has been designed to deliver a higher level of durability.

When it comes to painting wooden surfaces such as skirting boards, doors and kitchen cupboards, our top choices include Intelligent Satinwood, a quick drying satin paint delivering a hard wearing finish. If you're searching for a paint with a lower sheen, we suggest also trying out Little Greene's Intelligent Eggshell.

For exterior surfaces our top choice has got to be the Little Greene Intelligent Exterior Eggshell. Available in the majority of all Little Greene colours, this exterior paint finish is a great choice for your outdoor wooden surfaces, such as garden furniture, doors and window frames. This advanced formula combines primer and topcoat within a single tin, allowing Intelligent Paints to be applied directly to most surfaces without the need for a separate primer or undercoat.

When making a significant colour change, for example, covering a light shade with a much darker tone, you may find it more efficient to first apply Intelligent ASP. All Surface Primer is designed to closely match your chosen finish, helping to reduce the chances of the existing surface colour and improve coverage.

When it comes to exterior projects, we recommend using the Little Greene Intelligent ASP. It functions as an exterior-grade primer, creating a more durable coating that helps protect surfaces against weathering and other external elements.

Certain project conditions may influence this, however Little Greene generally recommend applying at least two coats for the best results.
