Not only offering all round weather protection, Dulux Weathershield paints provides long-lasting colour and a finish that is durable against the rain just 30 minutes after application. It also protects against damage from the elements, such as water damage, mould growth, flaking paint and more.

Suitable for use on masonry, external wood and metal surfaces, Dulux Weathershield is easily applied and in most cases can be applied through a paintbrush, roller or sprayer offering an overall smooth finish, with a low V.O.C. 

What is Dulux Weathershield? And how exactly does it work?

Dulux Weathershield is an exterior specialist paint that has been designed specifically to be used on exterior masonry, wood and metal surfaces. It works through using advanced technology to help withstand the elements, helping your paint to look better for longer and provides a tough, hard wearing finish that provides protection from all weather conditions.

How should you prepare your surfaces before applying Dulux Weathershield?

For the best results, we recommend following the following steps to prepare your surfaces perfectly before applying any of the Dulux Weathershield products:

  • Ensure all surfaces to be painted are clean and dry with no dirt, grease, rust or flaking paint. (Areas affected by mould, algae or fungi should be treated with an appropriate fungicidal wash.)
  • If applying Dulux Weathershield to metal surfaces  Remove rust using an appropriate rust remover. On new galvanised metal surfaces, allow to weather for six months before application.
  • When applying over new bare wooden surfaces, to ensure 6 year weather protection is achieved, prepare bare wood with an appropriate wooden exterior primer, ensuring that you are wiping off any excess.
  • Any surface defects should be repaired prior to application
  • Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using ‘wet flatting’ methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint free cloth.

How long are Dulux Weathershield products designed to provide protection for?

Is Dulux Weathershield breathable?

Yes, Dulux Weathershield is micro-porous and breathable, therefore allowing moisture and air to be released. This breathability helps to prevent the build up of damp and mould. 

Is Dulux Weathershield water based?

Yes, Dulux Weathershield is a water-based paint and can therefore be watered down if a thinner application is required.

Can Dulux Weathershield be colour matched?

Yes, Dulux Weathershield can be colour matched so that you can get the perfect colour for your project. Simply choose one of our Dulux Weathershield colour match products, whether that be Gloss, Satin, Masonry or Undercoat and your perfect colour will be mixed by us.

Can Dulux Weathershield be sprayed?

Yes, Dulux Weathershield can be sprayed using most paint spraying equipment. For a conventional spray, you may need to thin the paint using 1 part clean water with 2.5 parts of paint. For an airless spray, use 1 part clean water with 5 parts paint.

Do I need undercoat with Dulux Weathershield?

For the best results, use Dulux Weathershield Undercoat before painting with Dulux Weathershield Paint as this will help to prevent cracking and will ensure longer lasting performance.
