Dulux Heritage: What’s it all about?

Dulux Heritage: What’s it all about?

You might have spotted the rather lovely looking tins and wondered what this range of colours is all about (maybe you’ve already guessed).

A lot of time, design and historical research has gone into The Dulux Heritage Range - which is one of the reasons we’re so proud to stock it. In short, the range is a collection of colours you would typically have seen across key periods in history. Which is fantastic if you’re into recreating those classic interior styles.

Available in both velvet matt and now eggshell you can paint both your walls and woodwork in the stunning 110 colours that are part of the Dulux Heritage range.

At Decorating Centre Online, we’re big believers in being descriptive not prescriptive. We’re not here to tell you ‘what’s hot and what’s not’. We share the latest trends with the hope of inspiring your next projects, and we love putting together pallets for our Colours of The Year. But ultimately, we believe choosing a colour comes down to one thing: you.

That’s why we do Colour Match Paint - we have over 19,000 colours. Trends aside, it means we can offer you the colours you’re looking for in a wide range of finishes. So whether you’re doing your woodwork, masonry, or have walls with specialist needs (e.g. damp protection), we can give you the right quality paint, in the colour you desire.

So, you might be wondering, if they Colour Match - why do they offer the Dulux Heritage Range too?

Choosing what to choose

19,000 colours is a lot.

Choosing where to choose your colours from can be a little daunting. With so many brands offering so many shades, how do you know where to start your search?

That’s why we think the range of Dulux Heritage colours are so good.

A timeless collection of colours, the range has been inspired by three key periods of British history: Georgian (1714-1837), Victorian (1837-1901) and Edwardian Art Deco (1901-1939).

If you have a property from those periods and you want to decorate in a way that’s in keeping with its architecture and the original style - the Dulux Heritage paint can do a lot of the hard work for you.

Paint wasn’t quite as sophisticated between 1714-1938, so while it’s a big span of time, the popular colours of the time stayed relatively the same. The range has just over 100 key colours; so while it’ll whittle down your selection - it still gives you plenty to choose from.

We love the fact so much historical research went into pulling the collection together. If you’re into renovations, and staying true to a building’s original design, then this collection is for you.

Wondering about the paint’s names? They’re inspired by key British designs and locations. Some of our favourites are Chiltern White, Golden Ivory, Potters Pink and Raven’s Flight

Whichever you pick, you can feel confident that these colours will be in keeping with your home’s original features (and may well have been on its walls back in the day).

Bringing out your homes’ character

Yes, the Dulux Heritage Collection has been inspired by the past, but these colours don't look out of place in modern styled homes or new builds. A new take on tradition, the collection takes the most prominent colours from periods of decorating history and gives them a stylish contemporary hue. It also comes with a set of complementary neutrals, making it super easy to pick a palette with personality.

When it comes to the paint itself, the product has been designed very much for modern living. It’s easy to apply, dries to a premium and is tough and long lasting. The paints are professional standard and easy to use. They have an opulent, velvet matt finish which will leave your walls looking lovely for years to come.
